Bent’s Old Fort also serves as a major historic landmark along the Santa Fe Trail. History Colorado documents that the site functioned as a central trading location between 1821 and 1880, connecting travelers, Indigenous nations, military expeditions, and commercial networks across the plains. The organization notes that the fort continues to attract visitors seeking information about early commerce and frontier life.

The FOX Theater contributes additional cultural value to La Junta’s historic district. Cinema Treasures records the building opening in 1912 as the Rourke Opera House and later operating under FOX Intermountain Theaters beginning in 1939. The venue was renovated into two screening rooms with 159 and 96 seats and reopened in 2001. Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade reports that the theater contributes to downtown revitalization through the Reimagine Destinations program. The Colorado Community Revitalization Grant program identifies historic mixed‑use cultural venues as qualifying projects for redevelopment funding.
